New Delhi, July 20: The Goods and Services Tax (GST) increase and inflation were the targets of a demonstration by opposition parties on Wednesday inside the Parliament building.
The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), the Left, and other opposition party leaders chanted anti-government slogans calling for a reversal of the government’s increase in the GST rates on goods like paneer, bread, and curd.
Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, and other prominent Congress members were present during the demonstration in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue on the grounds of Parliament.
Inflation and GST rates have been a topic of discussion in Parliament, according to Congress and other parties. Since the Monsoon Session began on Monday, the topic has caused interruptions in the parliament.
The opposition MPs who were protesting carried banners and placards that read, “Gabbar Singh Tax Strikes again.”
Starting on July 18, the GST rate was increased from 0% to 5% on goods including curd and paneer.
