Mumbai, March 13: Naatu Naatu from SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ has become the first Indian film song to win Oscar. The song has created history to become the first song from any Indian film to win in the Best Song category.
Composed by MM Keeravani, with lyrics by Chandrabose and vocals by Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava, the song became massively popular soon after its release in March 2022 and now with the Oscar win, its popularity has grown manifold.

The song had to beat the other nominees in the category which included Applause (Tell It Like a Woman), Hold My Hand (Top Gun Maverick), Lift Me Up (Black Pather Wakanda Forever), and This is a Life (Everything Everywhere All at Once).
With this, the film became the first song from any Indian production to win the award. It is the second Indian song to win this prestigious award after Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire won one in 2009 in the same category.

Meanwhile, PM Narendra Modi congratulated the RRR team on Twitter and wrote, “Exceptional! The popularity of ‘Naatu Naatu’ is global. It will be a song that will be remembered for years to come. Congratulations to @mmkeeravaani, @boselyricist and the entire team for this prestigious honour. India is elated and proud. #Oscars.”

Notably, ‘Naatu Naatu’ is the first Telugu song to be nominated in the ‘Original Song’ category at the Oscars.
