Jaipur, Dec 7: Nanda Prusty, a 98 year old school teacher from Jaipur, popularly known as ‘Nanda Sir’, passed away on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at SUM Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
He died this afternoon after losing a week-long battle with the Covid virus, informed his grandson Khageshwar Prusty.
Nanda Prusty provided free education to generations of children since independence. He was awarded the Padma Shri 2021 under the “Literature and Education” category by President Ram Nath Kovind in November this year.
Following the demise of Padma Shri awardee Nanda Kishore Prusty, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to pay his respect and remember his contribution to the field of education.

Home Minister Amit Shah also paid his respect to the Padma Shri awardee and said that the nation will always remember his selfless service.
“Deeply saddened by the demise of Nanda Kishore Prusty Ji. He was recently conferred with the Padma Shri for his pioneer contribution towards providing free education to the children in Odisha. Nation will always remember this noble soul for his selfless service. Om Shanti Shanti,” tweeted Amit Shah.
