Pahalgam: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has identified the perpetrators of the April 22 Pahalgam attack as Pakistani nationals affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba, confirming a major breakthrough in the case that shocked the nation. The brutal attack in Baisaran Valley, known as ‘Mini Switzerland’, had left 26 people dead, including 25 tourists and a local pony operator.

Two locals arrested for aiding terrorists

According to the NIA, two residents of Pahalgam — Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar of Batkote and Bashir Ahmad Jothar of Hill Park — have been arrested for harbouring the three armed terrorists. Investigations revealed that the duo knowingly provided food, shelter, and logistical support to the militants at a seasonal hut in Hill Park. The terrorists later carried out a targeted killing of tourists based on their religious identity.

Lashkar connection and Pakistan link confirmed

The two accused disclosed during interrogation that the attackers were Pakistani nationals and active members of the banned outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba. Their statement corroborates earlier intelligence inputs suggesting cross-border planning behind the mass killing. The NIA has booked the arrested under Section 19 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and further investigation is underway.

Aftermath and India’s military response

The Pahalgam massacre, termed one of the most gruesome terror incidents in recent memory, triggered massive outrage across India. In response, New Delhi launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. The retaliatory strikes were limited to terror camps, but Pakistan responded with missile and drone attacks, most of which were intercepted by Indian air defence.

Ceasefire after escalation, India’s warning

Following Indian airstrikes on multiple Pakistani military bases, Islamabad requested a ceasefire. India agreed, but with a stern warning: any future attack would be met with a far more aggressive response. The NIA’s latest revelation is expected to further bolster India’s case against Pakistan’s continued support for cross-border terrorism.
