New Delhi: Despite recent tensions between India and Pakistan, the Pakistan hockey team has confirmed its participation in the upcoming FIH Junior Hockey World Cup to be hosted in India later this year. The decision comes after Pakistan had earlier skipped the Hockey Asia Cup in India following cross-border hostilities.
Backdrop of Tensions
Relations between the two nations have remained strained, especially after the recent Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 civilian lives. India responded with a military operation under “Operation Sindoor.” These events had raised doubts about sporting exchanges between the two countries, with Pakistan previously deciding against sending its team for the Asia Cup.
Tournament Significance
Hockey India Secretary General Bholanath Singh confirmed that Pakistan will compete in the FIH Junior World Cup, a prestigious under-21 tournament that showcases emerging talent from across the globe. The event provides young players with a platform to prove themselves on the international stage and often serves as a launchpad for future hockey stars. India, known for its rich hockey legacy, will serve as the proud host for this year’s edition.
