New Delhi, May 10: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan Wednesday was produced at the Islamabad Police Lines, a day after his arrest from outside the Islamabad High Court in Al-Qadir Trust case, reports Dawn and The Indian Express.
During the hearing, the court reserved its verdict on NAB plea which had sought 14-day physical remand of Khan. Ahead of presenting Khan before the court, security at Police Lines in Islamabad’s H-11 was tightened with heavy deployment of police officers.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior authorised the deployment of Pakistan Army troops in Punjab to maintain law and order situation in the province “in aid of civil power”, according to Pakistan daily Dawn. Moroever, following the ex-Pakistan Prime Minister’s arrest, protests intensified in several cities in Pakistan including Quetta, Karachi, Peshawar, Rawalpindi and Lahore, killing at least one person and injuring dozens. In unprecedented scenes, PTI supporters had stormed the Pakistan Army headquarters in Rawalpindi and the Corps Commander’s residence in Lahore, according to local media reports.
Khan, who is the chairman of PTI, was arrested while he was present at the Islamabad HC premises for the hearing of the Al-Qadir Trust case, in which Khan and his wife have been accused of receiving “billions of rupees from a real estate firm for legalising a laundered amount of Rs 50 billion”, Dawn reported.
