Daltonganj, Feb 23: Palamu district Suraksha Salahkar Samiti recently conducted a security audit of individuals having government police cops as security guards.
Following this, the armed security guard of the Pro vice-chancellor (VC) of the Nilamber Pitamber University Dr. Deep Narayan Yadav has been withdrawn.
Police in its lingo call such withdrawal of cops from the security cover of an individual as ‘close’.
Palamu DC Shashi Ranjan, the chairman of Suraksha Salahkar Samiti, said, “We have been told by our different intelligence agencies that there is no threat perception to the Pro VC here.” He refused to elaborate on the threat perception.
“If our agencies find any threat perception at any point of time, the administration will act suitably and swiftly accordingly then,” he added.
NPU has a vast geographical territory like Mahuadanr which is close to Chhattisgarh and Nagar Untari which is close to Uttar Pradesh, besides other colleges located in the far-flung areas to name a few Dhurki, Bhavnathpur and Japla.
Pro VC Yadav on being contacted said, “I have requested DC Shashi Ranjan and SP Chandan Kumar Sinha to have a second thought and be considerate enough to restore the lone armed security guard.”
He stated that he visits the colleges under this university regularly, both near and far away, and during the examinations which are held throughout the year, the mood and temperament of the examinees and students, in general, remain highly unpredictable, necessitating the use of security cover.
Yadav said his plea for the continuation of the security guard is not for any reason of any exhibitionism at all as he said he just wants his itinerary to colleges located in 3 districts Latehar, Garhwa and Palamu to remain smooth.
The Proctor of the university has also shot off a letter of request to the SP urging him to order the existing lone security guard to the pro vice-chancellor.
Sources said the state police headquarters still views Palamu and Latehar districts as one hit by left-wing extremism albeit down but not out at all.
There are 3 functioning degree colleges in Latehar, one each at Manika, Latehar and Mahuadanr. Police sources admit these three places are still the rendezvous of the extremists right from the CPI Maoists down to the JJMP extremists.
It is the Mahuadanr college which is around 100 km from Daltonganj and the state highway 9 that goes to it is dotted with vestiges of an extremely horrendous fight, ambush and land mining of the security forces right on the state highway in the past.
