Daltonganj, Dec. 18: Covid-19 vaccination in Palamu has taken a back seat following the government’s door-to-door initiative.

Eligibles are spending more time in preparing petitions for freebies than visiting the vaccination sites. Ramgarh block in Palamu is still dragging its feet on the vaccinations.

A total of 2,574 vaccinations were done at 33 vaccination sites on the first day of the 3-day mega vaccination drive on Friday under Ramgarh block in Palamu.

Confirming this, district epidemiologist Dr Anup kr Singh said: “It comes to 78 percent as we had set a target of minimum 100 vaccinations per site.”

The state health department has set a target of 26,868 vaccinations a day for Palamu but it continues to be far behind its target every day thus widening the gap between the daily score of the vaccination and the target set by the state health department.

Apart from the tardy achievement of the vaccinations a day here Palamu health officials are bracing for passengers coming from foreign countries.

“We are looking for the starting destination of the passengers and so far the start destination has not been any African country or some such countries where the risk of the Omicron is high,” said Dr Anil Kumar (civil surgeon).

He said that passengers from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Netherlands and other foreign countries have returned to Palamu. The health officials are keeping close tabs on them. For the time being, they are keeping fit and fine.
