New Delhi, July 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Thursday that the Manipur event in which women were paraded naked had embarrassed 140 crore Indians and vowed that the guilty ones would not be spared from legal action.

He told reporters at the Parliament complex before the start of the Monsoon session that “Today, when I am standing by this temple of democracy, my heart is full of pain and anger.” The opposition parties had criticised him for remaining silent about the ethnic violence in the BJP-ruled north-eastern state.

“I want to assure the countrymen that no guilty will be spared. Law will act with its full might and firmness… What has happened to these daughters of Manipur can never be forgiven,” he said.

After a May 4 video appeared on Wednesday showing two women from one of the warring factions being paraded naked by a few men from the opposing side, tension increased in the hills of Manipur.
