New Delhi, March 31: The price of petrol and diesel was increased by 80 paise per litre on Thursday, bringing the total increase in fuel rates in the last ten days to 6.40 per litre.
Petrol will now cost 101.81 per litre in Delhi, up from 101.01 per litre yesterday, while diesel prices have risen from 92.27 per litre to 93.07 per litre today, according to state fuel dealers’ price notification.
After an 84-paise hike, the price of petrol and diesel per litre in Mumbai reached 116.72 and 100.94, respectively.
In Chennai, the price of petrol has increased by 76 paise per litre to 107.45, while the price of diesel has climbed by 76 paise per litre to 97.52.
In Kolkata, the price of petrol is 111.35 rupees per litre (up 83 rupees) and diesel is 96.22 rupees per litre (up 83 rupees) (increased by 80 paise).
Notably, fuel rates have been raised across the country, and they differ from state to state based on the amount of municipal taxation. This is the seventh price rise since the end of a four-and-a-half-month rate revision break on March 22. Since November 4 of last year, there had been a standstill in gasoline price revisions, which was broken on March 22 after crude oil prices rose.
Meanwhile, the Congress began a nationwide protest against inflation and rising fuel prices this morning. Rahul Gandhi, the party’s senior leader, is set to lead the demonstration at Vijay Chowk in Delhi.
