New Delhi, Sept.30: Petrol and diesel prices in the country have reached new highs on Friday as global oil prices remained at three-year highs.

According to Indian Oil Corporation, petrol prices in the national capital have increased by 25 paise from Rs 101.64 per litre to Rs 101.89 per litre, and diesel prices have climbed by 30 paise from Rs 89.87 per litre to Rs 90.17 per litre. The new price of petrol in Mumbai is Rs. 107.95 per litre, while diesel is at Rs. 97.84 per litre.

This is the third price rise for petrol and the sixth for diesel since the end of a three-week rate adjustment respite.

According to the state-run oil refiner, Mumbai has the highest fuel prices of the four metro cities. Because of the value-added tax (VAT), fuel prices vary by state.

According to the Indian Oil, the petrol and diesel price across the metro cities are:

Delhi: Petrol-101.89, Diesel-90.17

Mumbai: Petrol- 107.95, Diesel-97.84

Chennai: Petrol- 99.58, Diesel-94.74

Kolkata: Petrol- 102.47, Diesel-93.27

State-run oil refineries such as Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum revise fuel prices on a daily basis, taking into account worldwide crude oil prices as well as rupee-dollar exchange rates. Every day at 6 a.m., any adjustments in petrol and diesel prices take effect.
