Players of Dhanbad schools excel in Jharkhand chess championship

Dhanbad, April 8: Students of Dhanbad schools excelled in different events of the state chess championship which concluded at JRD Sports Complex on Thursday evening.

Coordinator of state chess championship Prabhat Ranjan Kumar of Dhanbad district said that for the first time three players of district schools bagged first, second and third position in the state selection championship for national.

DAV Alkusa Dhanbad student Ishant Kumar brushed aside challenges of Jamshedpur, Ranchi,  West Singhbhum and Saraikela Kharsawan won the boys under-18 championship while school’s Pratibha Singh emerged runners up in the girls under -14 event and earned a place in the state team.

DAV Baniahir ( Jharia) student Krishna Kumar Sab got third place in the boys under -14 event. Earlier, Ishant Kumar had got the third position in the state rapid chess championship held at Chaibasa ( West Singhbhum).The performance of Dhanbad schools students keeps significant as due to Covid-19 they had been out of touch for the last two years. Even chess activities in the district had been badly affected.

International Master (IM)  Neeraj Mishra, who is also secretary of Jharkhand Chess Association, joint secretary Ajay Kumar, coordinator Prabhat Ranjan Kumar, district chess association secretary NK Tiwary, chief arbiter Jayant Bhuyan, former treasurer of state chess association and ex-secretary of Dhanbad Chess Association Arvind Kumar highly appreciated the performance of Dhanbad players.
