Plight of Jharkhand Fire Department: More than half of sanctioned posts vacant

Ranchi, Oct 21: The Jharkhand Fire Department is facing a shortage of manpower with out of total 875 posts sanctioned, 460 posts are lying vacant. On behalf of the Fire Department located at Doranda, Ranchi, proposals were sent to the government several times for the vacant posts, but so far the vacancies could not be filled.

There is no dearth of infrastructure with the Jharkhand Fire Department, but there is a shortage of experts in those resources. It is clear that the fire department of Jharkhand state is running on the basis of jugaad system of manpower.

In the state Ranchi, Giridih, Daltonganj, Jamshedpur, Bokaro, Garhwa, Dhanbad, Chaibasa, Chatra, Latehar, Gumla, Dumka, Godda, Hazaribagh, Barhi, Deoghar, Sahibganj, Pakur, Lohardaga, Simdega, Jamtara, Ramgarh, Khunti, Chas and Hussainabad have fire stations, but there is a severe shortage of staff at all these places.

The places which are vacant are as follows:

The sanctioned post for State Fire Officer is one which at present it is lying vacant.

There are two posts of Additional Fire Officer, both are vacant.

There are 6 posts of Divisional Fire Officer, but all the posts are currently vacant.

There are 12 posts of Assistant Divisional Fire Officer, currently, all are vacant.

There are 44 posts of Fire Station Officer, currently, all are vacant.

There are 44 posts of Sub Officers, currently, 13 are vacant.

There are 221 posts of Chief Fire Driver at present 73 are standing.

Out of 502 Fire Driver’s posts, 284 are vacant.

There are 8 posts of Steno cum Computer Operator at present all are vacant.

There are two posts of head clerk, both are vacant.

There are 15 posts of clerical posts, currently, 8 are vacant.
