Udhampur, July 2: The government introduced the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) income assistance programme in the interim Budget for 2019 for farmers with the intention of directly benefiting the less fortunate farmers, an official release said.

The cost of the PM-KISAN scheme, which provides farmers with direct cash assistance of Rs 6,000 is expected to be Rs 75,000 crore.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare mentions in the scheme document that small and marginal farmers with less than two hectares of land will get cash into their accounts in three instalments of Rs 2,000 each.

Farmers from the Debrah Panchayat in the Udhampur district, in particular, praised the programme since it now allows them to purchase appropriate seeds, which they previously were unable to do due to poor revenue. According to officials, the programme benefits as many as sixty thousand four hundred eighty-nine farmers in the district.

The agricultural environment around Debrah Village is changing dramatically. Farmers are benefiting from organic agricultural practices, which have greatly enhanced their fortunes, as a result of the rising demand for organic crops. The greater nutritional content, lack of genetically modified ingredients and favourable environmental effects of organic farming have all contributed to the transition towards organic vegetable growing.

To meet the growing demand for organic vegetables in Udhampur, Sanjeev Kumar Sharma with 33 years of experience, a vegetable farming veteran from Debrah village, has adopted organic agricultural practices.

Sharma, who is well-known for his dedication to chemical-free farming, thanked the Central government for putting the programme into place.

He acknowledged the government’s initiative in attending to farmers’ needs. He affirmed that he had immediately received these instalments, which had been crucial in enabling him to buy various vegetable seeds so that he could continue and grow his organic agricultural activities.

Farmers like Sanjeev Kumar Sharma are leading the charge for sustainable and environmentally friendly farming practices as organic vegetable growing thrives in Debrah village. Debrah Village is growing into a beacon of success with the help of the PM-KISAN Yojana and rising demand for organic food, serving as an inspiration for other communities in search of a greener and more affluent future.

There are 60,489 registered farmers who avail the program’s benefits, Sanjay Anand, Chief Agriculture Officer of Udhampur said.
