New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the 16th Brics Summit in Kazan, Russia, from October 22-23, 2024, following an invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Ministry of External Affairs announced on Friday. The summit, themed “Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security,” will convene leaders from the newly expanded Brics bloc, including Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates, alongside the original members: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
This significant event will provide a crucial platform for discussing global political and economic issues. Russian President Putin aims to position Brics as a formidable counterbalance to Western influence in global affairs. Prime Minister Modi’s participation is expected to further solidify India’s role within the bloc and explore new avenues for cooperation.
In addition to attending the summit, PM Modi is anticipated to engage in bilateral talks with his Brics counterparts to address regional and global concerns. The summit will also offer an opportunity to review ongoing Brics initiatives and chart future paths for collaboration among member nations.
