New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a significant conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin today, focusing on bilateral relations and the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The discussion followed PM Modi’s recent visit to Ukraine, where he emphasized the need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

“Spoke with President Putin today. Discussed measures to further strengthen Special and Privileged Strategic Partnerships. Exchanged perspectives on the Russia-Ukraine conflict and my insights from the recent visit to Ukraine. Reiterated India’s firm commitment to support an early, abiding and peaceful resolution of the conflict,” PM Modi shared on X (formerly Twitter).

A government statement elaborated on the conversation, noting that the Prime Minister recalled his successful visit to Russia last month, where he participated in the 22nd India-Russia Bilateral Summit. During the talks, both leaders reviewed progress on several bilateral issues and explored ways to enhance the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia.

In their exchange, the two leaders also shared views on a range of regional and global issues of mutual interest. The ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict was a central topic, with PM Modi offering insights from his recent visit to Ukraine. He underscored the importance of dialogue and diplomacy, urging sincere and practical engagement from all stakeholders to achieve a lasting and peaceful resolution.

During his recent visit to Ukraine, Prime Minister Modi discussed the conflict with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. A joint India-Ukraine statement emphasized the leaders’ commitment to upholding international law, including respect for territorial integrity and state sovereignty, as outlined in the UN Charter. Both leaders expressed their desire for closer bilateral dialogue on these critical issues.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Russia in July, just a month before his Ukraine trip, included bilateral talks with President Putin, further strengthening the ties between the two nations.
