Paris: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in Paris on Monday, attended a welcome dinner hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace, ahead of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Summit. Upon arrival, President Macron greeted PM Modi with a warm embrace, reaffirming their strong bilateral ties.

A Warm Welcome in Paris

President Macron took to X to share his enthusiasm for PM Modi’s visit, posting, “Welcome to Paris, my friend @narendramodi.”

During the dinner, PM Modi also met US Vice President JD Vance, marking their first official interaction since Vance assumed office last month. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) shared visuals of the three leaders engaging in discussions, highlighting the diplomatic importance of the event.

PM Modi also received an enthusiastic welcome from the Indian diaspora in Paris. Braving the cold, the Indian community gathered to greet him, to which the PM responded, “A memorable welcome in Paris! The cold weather didn’t deter the Indian community from showing their affection. Grateful to our diaspora and proud of their accomplishments.”

Strengthening India-France Relations

This marks PM Modi’s sixth visit to France. Ahead of the summit, he emphasized the visit’s significance, stating that the bilateral meetings would provide an opportunity to review progress on the 2047 Horizon Roadmap for the India-France strategic partnership.

Following the AI Summit, PM Modi and President Macron will visit Marseille, where they will pay homage at the Mazargues War Cemetery, honoring Indian soldiers who fought during World War I. They will also jointly inaugurate the Consulate General of India in Marseille.

The visit will conclude with PM Modi’s tour of Cadarache, home to the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), a global project dedicated to advancing clean nuclear fusion energy, where India is a key partner.

The AI Action Summit

The AI Action Summit, taking place today, will bring together global leaders and top tech CEOs to discuss the ethical and responsible advancement of AI. With AI playing a pivotal role in shaping the global economy, the summit aims to foster international collaboration on AI governance and innovation.

Previously, the AI Summits were held in the UK (2023) and South Korea (2024).
