PM Modi pays tribute to CDS Rawat, 12 others at Palam air base

Earlier, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met and expressed their condolences to the families of victims.

New Delhi, Dec.9: Prime Narendra Modi reached the Palam air base today and paid his tribute to the late CDS General Bipin Rawat, his wife and the other 11 victims of the M-17 helicopter crash in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu on Wednesday, Dec.8.

 

 

The PM was accompanied by the 3 heads of Indian forces; Army Chief Gen MM Naravane, Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar and IAF chief Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari.

After paying his respects, the PM also met with the families of the deceased and extended his condolences to them.

The last rites of the crash victims is scheduled for tomorrow. Defence Mnister Rajnath Singh had earlier announced in the Parliament that they will be cremated with full military honors.

Civilians can pay tribute to CDS Gen Bipin Rawat from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at Karaj Marg residence tomorrow. Military personnel can pay respects between 12:30 pm to 13:30 pm. Thereafter, the mortal remains will be taken in a gun carriage for the funeral in Delhi’s Cantt Brar Square.
