New Delhi, Nov.19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Friday that the Centre will withdraw three unpopular farm laws that were passed in Parliament in September last year, after more than a year of protest.
PM Modi apologised, saying the administration “failed to persuade a portion of farmers” about farm regulations. During this month’s Parliament session, he declared, the three problematic laws will be eliminated.
“I apologise to India, and it is with a real and pure heart that I say… we were unable to persuade farmers [over agricultural regulations].” I’m here to announce that the three agriculture laws will be repealed… During the Parliamentary session, which begins this month, we will fulfil all of the formalities,” he said.
Farmers were also asked to “return home to their families and start anew,” according to PM Modi.
The three agriculture laws were passed by Parliament in September of last year. They had first appeared in June as three Ordinances, before being adopted by Parliament by voice vote during the Monsoon Session.
Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act are the three laws in question.
Protests against these farm restrictions have been going on for more than a year. Thousands of farmers have set up camp near Delhi’s border areas, calling for the restrictions to be repealed. The Centre has finally decided to repeal the legislation that have caused farmers and the government to disagree.
PM Modi remarked in his address to the nation, “I did everything I could to help farmers. What I’m doing is for the greater good of the country. With your blessings, I never skipped a beat in my diligent efforts. Today, I pledge to work even harder so that your goals, as well as the nation’s dreams, can come true.”
“We sought to supply farmers with affordable seeds as well as services such as micro-irrigation and 22 crore soil health cards. Increased agricultural production has been aided by such causes. We bolstered the Fasal Bima Yojana by enrolling more farmers “Prime Minister Modi stated.
“Many initiatives have been taken to guarantee that farmers receive the proper compensation for their efforts. We bolstered the market for rural infrastructure. Not only did we enhance MSP, but we also established new government procurement centres. Our government’s procurement broke a record that had stood for decades “Prime Minister Modi stated.
