Patna: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) during his visit to Purnea, Bihar. Addressing a public event after inaugurating the new Purnea airport and flagging off its first commercial flight, the PM accused the Opposition of insulting Bihar by comparing it to beedis and advocating for infiltrators to secure their vote bank.
Inauguration of Projects Worth ₹36,000 Crore
At the gathering, which saw the presence of Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Union ministers, and NDA leaders, PM Modi unveiled and laid foundation stones for projects worth ₹36,000 crore. These included the Namami Gange STP and I&D schemes in Bhagalpur, a semen production centre in Purnea (virtually inaugurated), and the 3×800 MW thermal power project at Pirpainti in Bhagalpur district. Several other infrastructure and development projects were also launched.
Warning on Changing Demographics
PM Modi highlighted concerns over demographic changes in Seemanchal and eastern India due to infiltration. He said that people in Bihar, Bengal, Assam, and other states were increasingly worried about the safety of their daughters and sisters. The Prime Minister announced the “Demography Mission” to address this challenge, alleging that Congress, RJD, and their ecosystem were shielding illegal entrants for political gains. He also revealed that GST rates on household essentials would change from September 22, ahead of Navratri, helping families reduce kitchen expenses and buy affordable clothes for children during festivals.
