New Delhi, Dec 22: Following the outbreak of Omicron, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will examine the country’s coronavirus disease (Covid-19) situation on Thursday.

In the past, the Prime Minister has held similar review meetings. PM Modi had ordered officials to consider proposals to reduce restrictions on international travel during the last review meeting, which took place at the end of November, in light of worldwide concern over Omicron, which was detected in South Africa.

According to the Ministry, 214 cases of Omicron have been reported in the country so far. Out of this Delhi topped the list with 57 cases followed by Maharashtra with 54 cases.

In light of the new version, the Prime Minister instructed officials to be “proactive.” States and union territories were notified about the new Covid-19 variety by the health ministry on Tuesday. According to the report, Omicron is at least three times more transmissible than the Delta version, based on existing scientific research.

Greater foresight, data analysis, dynamic decision making, and stringent and timely containment action are also required at the local and district levels, according to the ministry.
