Police arrest 15 for killing three women after branding them witch

Ranchi, Sept 6: Police arrested 15 persons for killing three women branded as witches in Ranadih, a village about 25km from the capital in Sonahatu police station area.

All those arrested are tribal. Among those arrested two include the son and husband of one of the deceased.

Breakthrough came after a team led by Bundu SDPO Ajay Kumar swung into action getting information of witch hunting.

According to the information, Lalit, the son of one of the women killed, suspected that his mother and two other women of the village were biting the youth of the village as snakes, due to which he along with other villagers planned and killed them.

Surendra, the nephew of one of the deceased, was present on the spot. He tried to convince the villagers not to do so but failed. He informed the police and helped ensure the arrest of the accused.

Accused had dumped bodies after killing the women in the forest of Marangburu hill, located two and a half kilometers away from the village.
