Bengaluru, April 14: Several top Congress politicians were held in Karnataka on Thursday, including DK Shivakumar and former chief minister Siddarmaiah, amid massive protest over the murder of a contractor tied to state minister KS Eshwarappa.

The chaos was captured in images posted by news agency ANI as the Congress demonstrated in Bengaluru, reiterating their demand for the resignation of the state minister accused of pressuring the contractor to commit suicide. To disperse the protests, the police had no choice but to use force.

Notably, contractor Satish Patil was allegedly pushed to commit himself after being ordered to pay bribes. On Wednesday, a FIR was lodged against the minister and two of his assistants. The contractor’s family had done his last rights earlier in the day on Thursday. They’ve been seeking justice and demanding that the minister and his aides be held accountable.

Basavaraj Bommai, the chief minister, had previously ignored calls for the minister’s resignation while slamming the opposition.

“The Congress doesn’t have any moral right to protest. Congress is a Gangotri of corruption. The postmortem (in this case) was done yesterday, and now a preliminary inquiry(report) will come. Based on that we’ll proceed,” he said.
