New Delhi, June 24: Droupadi Murmu, the candidate of the National Democratic Alliance, filed her nomination for the President poll 2022 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Along with PM Modi, other attendees included BJP leader Jagat Prakash Nadda, union home minister Amit Shah, and defence minister Rajnath Singh.

Yashwant Sinha, the opposition candidate is competing against Droupadi Murmu of the Santhal tribe from Odisha. The former Jharkhand governor has received support from organisations like Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSR Congress and Naveen Patnaik’s Biju Janata Dal.
In the electoral college, the NDA has 5,32,351 of the total 10,86,431 votes. The Biju Janata Dal has 31,686 votes, YSR Congress has 45,550 votes and the AIADMK has 14,940 votes.
Murmu was named the NDA’s presidential candidate by the Bharatiya Janata Party on June 21. JP Nadda, the president of the BJP, made the declaration following a parliamentary gathering of the party presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Between 2000 to 2004, the 64-year-old tribal leader served as a minister in the BJP-BJD coalition administration. Between 2015 until 2021, she also served as governor of Jharkhand.
On July 18, there will be presidential elections, and on July 21, the votes will be tallied. On July 25, the new president will take office.
