Ranchi, July 9: BJP ST Morcha National President Sameer Oraon has urged all the political parties of Jharkhand to cooperate with NDA’s presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu.
Holding a press conference at the BJP state headquarters, he said that for the first time in independent India, a woman from the tribal society is getting an opportunity to occupy the highest constitutional post of the country and it is expected from Chief Minister Hemant Soren and JMM chief Shibu Soren that they will support her.
Terming Murmu’s nomination for this post of president by PM Narendra Modi and BJP President JP Nadda a historic decision, the BJP leader said that not only Jharkhand but people associated with tribal society, tribal organizations and committees across the country are feeling proud of themselves with this decision.
Former MLA and BJP ST Morcha state president Shivshankar Oraon, former MLA Ram Kumar Pahan and many other office-bearers of the Morcha were present at the press conference.
Reacting over the Oraon’s expectation, Congress spokesperson Rakesh Sinha termed the nomination of Murmu as part of the tribal appeasement policy of the BJP for votes.
“Is it right of the BJP to introduce a person holding the highest office of the country by the name of her caste? Is this the nationalism of BJP?” Sinha questioned, raising doubt over the concept of nationalism of the BJP.
Sinha said that by nominating Murmu as presidential candidate BJP is pretending to be a well-wisher of the tribals as when Murmu used to be the governor of this state, the BJP had sent a file of amendments in the CNT-SPT Act to the Raj Bhawan and thus attempted attack on the existence and honour of the tribal during her reign.
Even today, Sinha alleged, the BJP is doing the work of swindling and duping the tribal people on the issue of the Sarna religion code in the census form. He said while his government has sent the proposal to the Center for a Sarna religion code after getting it passed by the assembly with full commitment, the central government is silent on the issue.
