Mumbai, July 12: Shiv Sena head Uddhav Thackeray announced on Tuesday that his party will completely support the NDA’s presidential candidate giving Draupadi Murmu’s campaign a significant boost.
“Shiv Sena will support Draupadi Murmu for the upcoming Presidential elections,” Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray was quoted as saying by ANI.
Notably, the majority of Shiv Sena MPs had earlier urged their party leader to publicly back Draupadi Murmu because she was a tribal woman and a strong contender for the highest position in the Constitution.
The meeting, which was called by Uddhav Thackeray on July 11, according to Sanjay Raut, the party’s head, was discussed in relation to Murmu.
Raut further emphasised that backing Murmu does not equate to backing its estranged former ally BJP. The day of the presidential elections is July 18. Murmu, a candidate for the NDA, will run against Yashwant Sinha, a rival.
