Wayanad: During a campaign rally in Kalpetta, Wayanad, Priyanka Gandhi made a heartfelt promise to her constituents, assuring them of her ongoing dedication to the region despite her brother Rahul Gandhi’s absence. In her speech, Priyanka shared a personal story to highlight her connection with the constituency.
“When my son was 13, I left him at a boarding school and cried for days, feeling like my heart had been taken away,” she recalled. Priyanka explained how frequent visits to her son led the school principal to eventually joke that she should visit less often. Drawing a parallel to her commitment to Wayanad, she addressed the crowd, saying, “All of these people are telling you ‘she will not come,’ but I will keep coming.”
She assured the people of Wayanad that she would step in for Rahul, who vacated the seat after winning in Rae Bareli. “I just want to say I am here,” Priyanka declared. “I know Rahul is gone. But in spirit, he stays with you all.”
Earlier in the day, Priyanka visited Meenangadi, where she met a differently-abled student and offered words of encouragement as he prepared for his exams. This interaction reflected her personal bond with Wayanad’s people.
This marks Priyanka’s second visit to the constituency after filing her nomination on October 22. She led a roadshow in Kalpetta, accompanied by Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, rallying support for the upcoming by-election on November 13.
The Wayanad by-election is part of a larger series of by-polls, including elections in Jharkhand and Maharashtra. Results for these elections, including Wayanad’s, will be announced on November 23.
