Lucknow, Oct.9: The Congress party has declared that on Sunday, it will hold a ‘Kisan Nyay Rally’ in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, to demand justice for the victims of the Lakhimpur Kheri violence. According to the poster for the rally, to be addressed by Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency, the motto is “Chalo Banaras.”

Preparations for the rally which will take place on October 10, are well on in Varanasi. In the Rohania neighbourhood of the city, a big tent is being put up on the ground of Jagatpur Inter College. Congress leaders reported that large cutouts of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had been placed, and that further arrangements are being made.

According to a senior Congress leader, the party’s main demand is for Ajay Mishra Teni to be removed from the Union cabinet, for the accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri tragedy to be arrested, and for the three agriculture laws to be repealed.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will first offer prayers at Kashi Vishwanath Temple and Maa Durga at Durgakund Temple in the holy city before speaking at the gathering and commencing the Mission-2022 election campaign, according to party sources.

Congress representatives have met with residents in eastern Uttar Pradesh and appealed to them to attend the rally in big numbers in a door-to-door effort.
