Chandigarh, March 10: Charanjit Singh Channi, the Punjab Chief Minister and a Congress leader, lost both the Chamkaur Sahib and Bhadaur seats he ran for.

Labh Singh Ugoke of the Aam Aadmi Party received over 57,000 votes in Bhadaur, whereas Mr Channi received just over 23,000 votes. Mr Channi received 50,000 votes in the other seat, while his nearest challenger from the Aam Aadmi Party, Charanjit Singh, received nearly 54,000 votes.

“I humbly accept the verdict of the people of Punjab and Congratulate Aam Aadmi Party and their elected Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Ji for the victory. I hope they will deliver on the expectations of people,” he tweeted.

I humbly accept the verdict of the people of Punjab and Congratulate @AamAadmiParty and their elected CM @BhagwantMann Ji for the victory. I hope they will deliver on the expections of people.

The Aam Aadmi Party, or AAP, appears to be on track to become government in Punjab, with polls indicating a strong showing. Unlike Delhi, which is a Union Territory, this victory would offer the Aam Aadmi Party, or AAP, its first shot at running an entire state.
