New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has ignited a fresh political storm by alleging large-scale electoral fraud in the Haryana Assembly elections, claiming that 25 lakh fake votes were cast — about 12.5% of the state’s total electorate. Gandhi referred to his explosive claims as the “H bomb,” asserting that the BJP manipulated results to overturn a predicted Congress victory.
Rahul Gandhi’s Allegations of Vote Manipulation
At a press conference, Gandhi said that all exit polls had forecast a Congress win, but the final results showed the BJP emerging victorious. He alleged that postal ballots contradicted booth results, an anomaly never seen in Haryana’s history. Gandhi claimed, “We have 100% proof that a plan was executed to convert Congress’s landslide win into a loss.”
He cited several cases of voter list irregularities — including 22 entries featuring the same photo of a Brazilian model, Matheus Ferrero, appearing under names like Sweety, Seema, and Saraswati. “This Brazilian woman voted in 10 booths under different names. This shows a centralised operation,” he said. Gandhi also showed instances where one woman’s photo appeared 100 times in a single constituency and another’s appeared 223 times across two polling booths.
He further claimed that 3.5 lakh names were deleted from the voter rolls before polling and accused the Election Commission (EC) of destroying CCTV footage from booths. “The EC can remove duplicates instantly but chooses not to because it’s helping the BJP,” Gandhi alleged.
BJP and Election Commission’s Response
Responding to the allegations, the Election Commission questioned the Congress’s own polling agents, asking why they didn’t object to duplicate voting on election day. Sources from the EC also challenged Gandhi’s assumption that all alleged fake voters supported the BJP, stating, “If a Congress leader appears in two voter lists, does that mean he votes twice?”
BJP leader Kiren Rijiju dismissed Gandhi’s claims, calling them another attempt to undermine India’s democratic institutions. “If Congress doesn’t trust the Election Commission, it can go to court. But blaming EVMs and the EC for every loss shows its political bankruptcy,” he said.
