New Delhi, Oct.13: A Congress team led by Rahul Gandhi is meeting with President Ram Nath Kovind to discuss the Lakhimpur tragedy in Uttar Pradesh, in which farmers were allegedly mowed down by a car driven by a Union Minister’s son.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, AK Antony, Mallikarjun Kharge, KC Venugopal, Ghulam Nabi Azad, and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury are among the delegation’s other members.
Ashish Mishra, the son of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra, was detained on October 3 for allegedly running over protesting farmers in the Uttar Pradesh state. The incident claimed the lives of eight persons, including four farmers.
The Congress has demanded that the Union Minister whose son is a defendant in the case be fired immediately.
KC Venugopal, a Congress leader, has stated that the party intends to present a full summary of facts on the Lakhimpur event.
The union government has remained deafeningly silent on the subject.
