New Delhi: Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has strongly condemned the recent attack on two army officers and the rape of one of their female friends in Madhya Pradesh, accusing the ruling BJP of failing to maintain law and order in its governed states. Gandhi expressed deep concern over the increasing crimes against women, calling the government’s response “extremely worrying.”
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Gandhi expressed his outrage, stating that the violence against the two army officers and their friend is a disgrace to society. “Law and order in BJP-ruled states is almost non-existent,” he said. He further criticized the BJP’s indifferent attitude toward the growing violence against women, linking it to administrative failure and the unsafe environment prevalent across the country.
Gandhi emphasized that the audacity of criminals is a direct result of the failure of the administration. He warned that this lack of security continues to stifle the freedom and aspirations of women in India, urging both society and the government to take responsibility for protecting the nation’s women.
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also voiced her discontent, highlighting the disconnect between the government’s promises of women’s safety and the reality on the ground. In her post on X, Priyanka Gandhi noted that incidents like the gang rape in Madhya Pradesh and the discovery of a naked woman’s body in Uttar Pradesh are heartbreaking, further underscoring the unsafe conditions for women across the country.
“Every day, 86 women fall victim to rape and brutality. Whether at home, on the road, or in the workplace, women are unsafe everywhere,” Priyanka Gandhi said, adding, “The prime minister talks about women’s safety, but women across the country are still waiting for real action. When will this wait end?”
The horrific incident took place when two young army officers, aged 23 and 24, were on a picnic with two women friends in the Mhow area of Indore. At around 2 am on Wednesday, a group of seven men attacked them, brutally beating the officers and the women. One of the officers managed to inform his seniors, leading to a police response. While the attackers fled, one of the women was found to have been raped during the assault, according to the medical examination.
The Congress party’s leadership has expressed its concerns over the recurring incidents of violence against women, demanding accountability from the BJP-led governments in states like Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
