Jamshedpur, July 21: The Indian Railways have adopted an innovative approach of linking popular areas with station names for the convenience of passengers.

The new facility will be implemented from today.

Officials of the Railway Board said that with this identification of small stations with popular areas will become easy now.

The railway will prompt not only the station but also the right place while planning a journey, said an official

Citing examples an official said small stations are linked with popular cities/areas like Sarnath has been linked with Banaras, Sabarmati has been linked with Ahmedabad, Panvel has been linked with Mumbai etc.

According to the official, the new approach would yield better planning of the journey and personalized passenger experience in ticket booking on the website and Mobile app.

For tourists, it will help in ease of station search and linking of satellite cities to connecting railway stations.

Notably, 175 popular cities/areas have been mapped with 725 stations.

This initiative also includes linking of satellite cities to connecting railway stations – eg., Noida to New Delhi.

Sometimes, local/ popular names are different from railway station names leading to confusion while journey planning hence linking will eliminate confusion.

The changes have been incorporated in the journey planner station search of the e-ticket booking website.

The functionality shall be displayed on the journey planner and electronic reservation slip of the ticket.

Further, MIS (Management Information System) generated will enable better planning of new trains and station amenities.
