Rajasthan: Three earthquakes within half an hour jolt Jaipur

Jaipur, July 21: Three back-to-back earthquakes shook Rajasthan’s Jaipur in a 30-minute period in the early hours of Friday.

The pink city had its first earthquake around 4.10 am, measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale, which compelled residents to flee their houses.

The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) reports that at around 4.10 am, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.4 on the Richter scale struck Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan. It was then followed by two other earthquakes, with respective magnitudes of 3.1 and 3.4.

The capital of Rajasthan was affected at 4.22 am by the second earthquake, which had a magnitude of 3.1, and at 4.25 am by the third, which had a magnitude of 3.4.

“Earthquake of Magnitude: 4.4, Occurred on 21-07-2023, 04:09:38 IST, Lat: 26.88 & Long: 75.70, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Jaipur, Rajasthan, India,” the NCS said in a tweet.

The earthquake happened at a depth of 10 km, according to the NCS.

There are currently no recorded reports of casualties or damages.

Residents of Jaipur felt the vibrations as the first earthquake struck the city early on Friday, causing some to leave their homes.

“The tremors were strong, and my whole family woke up. The tremors continued for a little long. It happened around ten past four in the morning. There are no injuries though,” Vikas, a local resident said.

Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje tweeted in response to the tremors, “Earthquake tremors have been felt at other places in the state including Jaipur. I hope you all are safe!”

An earthquake of magnitude 3.6 struck earlier on Thursday, 61 km east of Ngopa, Mizoram, the NCS reported. The earthquake happened at a depth of 80 kilometres, according to the NCS.
