New Delhi, Jan 21: Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was released from Sunaria prison in Rohtak district of Haryana on Saturday after being granted 40-day parole.
Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the leader of Dera Sacha Sauda and a self-described godman, was given a 40-day parole on Friday. The head of the Dera is currently incarcerated in Rohtak for 20 years after raping two of his pupils at his ashram in Sirsa.
Earlier, Ram Rahim received parole on October 14 last year. The Opposition has reacted angrily to Ram Rahim’s parole, claiming that his release was intended to sway the upcoming Adampur Assembly by-election and panchayat elections.
Meanwhile, Delhi Commission for Women chairperson, Swati Maliwal criticised the release of Ram Rahim.
“Rapist murderer Ram Rahim has once again been given parole for 40 days; all limits of shamelessness have been crossed. Countrymen save your daughters; rapists will roam free!,” she said in a tweet.
In August 2017, he was found guilty in Panchkula by a special CBI court. In the 2019 trial for the murder of a journalist, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and three other defendants were found guilty.
