Ramgarh, July 7: The three-day online workshop of Jharkhand Zone D was inaugurated at DAV Barkakana on Thursday. Considering the need of the hour in the first session of the workshop, Regional Officer Zone D Dr Urmila Singh addressed the session on serious topic like Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.

In 2013, the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act was passed.  The Act applies to organizations which have more than ten staff. The act is a tool to combat the menace of sexual harassment at workplace to working women.

Giving information about the important legal aspect related to sexual harassment, she said that this law makes sexual harassment of women at workplace illegal. This law identifies different types of sexual harassment, and states that how can a complaint can be made in case of sexual harassment at workplace.

“It is not necessary in this law that the workplace where the woman has been harassed should work there, the workplace can be any office/whether it is a private institution or government,” she added.

She also paid emphasis and gave information about how the complaint should be made? What happens after filing a complaint?  How does this law deal with false complaints?  What are the employers and their duties?, What steps should be taken by any organization?

The principal emphasised that people should know the law and rule properly and should also take care of what the policies say in this regard so that one can prepare accordingly. She added that it is important to know your legal rights.

“One will also face condemnation for taking such a step. So make yourself strong. Don’t take the words of the slanderers to heart. You are doing the right thing so don’t care what people say,” the principal said.

She gave many important tips on how to solve problems at the workplace. After this, the next session was related to different subjects and was addressed by experts.
