Ramgarh DC urges Lawn Bowls-star Rupa Rani Tirkey to promote sports in district

Ramgarh, Aug 17: District Sports Officer Rupa Rani Tirkey, who returned after winning the gold medal in ‘Lawn Bowls’ in Commonwealth Games 2022 held in Birmingham, met Ramgarh Deputy Commissioner Madhavi Mishra on Wednesday.

The DC congratulated Rupa for enhancing the country’s honour in the Commonwealth Games while working as District Sports Officer. DC Mishra also told her to take Ramgarh district forward in the direction of sports.

Notably, India won the gold medal in the lawn ball event for the first time in Commonwealth Games. Interestingly, out of 4 members of the team including Lovely Choubey, Rupa Rani Tirkey, Pinki, and Nayan Moni Saikia of the victorious Indian women’s team, 2 members Lovely Choubey, Rupa Rani Tirkey were from Jharkhand.

The Indian women’s team scripted history by winning the country’s first-ever gold medal in lawn bowls by defeating the South African team 17-10 in the final.
