Ranchi, Sept.12:  A six-yr-old girl on way to her school was raped today.  The incident took place in Palandu under Namkum police station in the morning.

The police arrested a 25-yr-old man Poulus Tirkey in this connection on the statement of the victim. He is a resident of the same village and known to the girl.

A locality resident said that the incident is an outcome of rising business of marijuana and illicit liquor in the area.

“The man who committed the crime has a habit of excessive drinking, purchasing from illegally running shops in the locality. When it was raining the man lured the girl to drop her to school on his bicycle. On way to school he took her in a deserted house and raped.  After rape he left her alone and escaped. Later the girl returned home and narrated the entire story to her mother, who informed the police,” the locality resident said.

Officer-in-charge of Namkum police station, Sunil Tiwari could not be contacted for his comment.
