Ranchi, Sept.27: In a case related to 43 air conditioners’ purchase scam involving Rs 3.04 lakh at Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ) Brambey, the court of Special CBI Judge PK Sharma on Tuesday convicted four and sentenced them to two-year imprisonment.
The four convicts include the then Project OSD of the University Narendra Pal Garg, electrical engineer Abhay N Tigga, proprietor of M/s Pratibha & Co. Hehal Ratu Road, Ranjit Kumar Sinha, and Maruti Sales executive Manoj Gupta.
Apart from the jail term, the court has also imposed a fine. While a fine of Rs 1.20 lakh each has been imposed on Narendra Pal and Abhay N Tigga, Rs 1.10 lakh on each of the other two. In case of non-payment of fine the court provided jail term of additional three months.
The scam took place in the financial year 2012-13. Due to the scam CUJ had suffered a loss of Rs.3,04,430. The CBI started the investigation by registering an FIR in the year 2015. During the hearing, all necessary evidence was produced by the CBI in the court. The final arguments of both sides were completed on 14 September.
