CONRAD DIAS
Ranchi, Oct 23: The festival of lights will be surrounded by a lot of fanfare and joy this year, just like in years past. While a large celebration of the Diwali festival is certainly deserving, it is equally important to do it under the strictest of safety.
Due to the use of firecrackers during the Diwali festival, there are significantly more incidents of eye injuries than usual. Therefore, when the children are taking part in the Diwali celebrations, the older family members should keep a watch on them.
Dr Anant Sinha, a renowned plastic surgeon from Ranchi and a Consultant in the Department of Plastic Reconstructive & Hand Surgery at Devkamal Hospital, Ranchi shared some important safety tips that should be followed while burning firecrackers this Diwali.
“People should be cautious while burning crackers this Diwali. Anaar (Flowerpots) should always be lit up using a sparkler on a flat surface and should never light it up in their hands. It is important to remove your face away while lighting it up. The maximum cases of facial burns during Diwali is due to Anaar itself,” Dr Sinha said.
Next, he said that while burning a Sutli bomb (Hydro-bomb), people should always keep it away from themselves and never try to catch it in their hands as it can cause a serious amount of damage to their hands. He also mentioned that while burning a Rocket bomb, one should always use a glass bottle instead of a plastic bottle and it should be facing towards the sky.
He said that if people follow these safety instructions then they can avoid any kind of unwanted incidents during Diwali. However, if there is any unwanted incident while burning crackers, they should keep pouring water on the burnt skin till the burning doesn’t stop. Water is the only first aid that should be used and parents must keep a bucket filled with water where children are bursting crackers.
When celebrating the event, everyone must take precautions and care because fireworks accidents can also harm unwitting onlookers. This Diwali, let’s spread joy and happiness while prioritising the security of your loved ones.
