Ranchi: Lower court rejects bail petition of June 10 violence accused

Ranchi, June 22: Ranchi Civil Court rejected the bail petition of one accused of the June-10 violence accused, Md Arif.

The order came from the court of judicial magistrate A Srivastava after hearing the argument of the prosecution and defence lawyer in the court. Arif’s lawyer had moved the bail petition on Tuesday.

Violence erupted on June 10 after a march taken out after Jumma Namaz (Friday prayer) to protest against the derogatory remarks against Prophet Mohammed by suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma became unruly.

Two youths were killed in police firing in the incident. The district administration had to make several prohibitory orders after the incident to maintain law and order. Even internet service remained suspended for two days (approx 30 hours).

An FIR was lodged against Arif at Doranda police station under various sections of IPC including 147 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly), 341 (unlawful restraint), 427 (mischief), 295(A) (attacking place of worship) and 120 B (conspiracy).
