Ranchi, June 29: The Muslim community members could not offer Bakrid Namaz today at the Harmu Road Idgah owing to rains, prompting several  of them to complain against the Anjuman Islamia.

“This is the first time since its establishment in 1860 Bakrid Namaz was not offered in Harmu Idgah. This is the place where Namaz is offered twice in a year-first time in Id and another time in Bakrid,” a Muslim youth who missed his Namaz said, requesting anonymity.

Muslim youth leader S Ali echoed the youth saying it should not have happened.

“Those who reached the Idgah were asked to go to Jama Masjid. In my opinion Namaz should have been allowed. The 162-year-old tradition of offering Namaz at Harmu Idgah got broken as Anjuman Islamia decided not to offer Namaz there observing the rainy weather condition,” he said.

Anjuman Islamia secretary Tarique Hussain, however, said there was no ill intention behind the non-performance of Namaz at the Idgah.

“Anjuman Islamia had decided not to organize Namaz observing the bad weather conditions. Everyone was asked to reach Jama Masjid in Upper Bazar. There was one option to offer Namaz under a tent in the Idgah but Anjaman Islamis did not agree to the idea anticipating poor turnout due to rains. Anjuman did not think it proper to waste money on a Pandal. As far as breaking tradition is concerned, Namaz at Idgah was not offered during the pandemic too,” Hussain said.
