Ranchi, Oct.6: Two extremists associated with the People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI), Sonu Manjhi and Vasu Kandulna, have been arrested. The Jharkhand police arrested both of them from Tonko, a village under the Airport police station area in the state capital. Sonu is carrying a bounty of Rs 2 lakh each on his head.

The breakthrough came after SSP Kaushal Kishore constituted a team under the leadership of Hatia DSP Raja Kumar Mitra on getting secret information about the movement of the extremists.

The policemen laid siege to Tonko village and arrested Manjhi and Kandulna. According to the information received, Sonu’s parents have been living in a rented house in Tonko village for a long time. They do the work of making bamboo goods there and earn their livelihood by selling it.

On asking how Sonu was arrested, a police officer explained the circumstances.

“Sonu had been released on bail a few months back from jail and was living in Rania area. On Tuesday, he reached his parents’ house in Tonko with his partner Vasu Kandulna in the evening. After the police got information regarding them they were arrested. After searching the house, two pistols were recovered,” the police official said.

Dozens of cases are registered against Sonu in various police stations of Chaibasa, Sonuva, Rania Bandgaon and Khunti. Sonu is close to PLFI supremo Dinesh Gope and is very active in Bandgaon and Chakradharpur area. Sonu is originally a resident of Turung village of Bandgaon police station area and holds the rank of area commander.
