Ranchi, May 15: Ranchi police today arrested a woman drug peddler, Asmina Parveen, from the capital’s Kanta Toli locality under the Lower Bazar police station.
The breakthrough came after the police getting information about her involvement in drug business sent two youth with Rs 1000 as purchasers. “As soon as she handed over the drug to purchasers sent by the police, she was arrested red-handed,” a police official said.
The police have started interrogating her.
This is not the first time a drug peddler has been arrested from the Lower Bazar police station area.
On November 13, 2021, five drug peddlers were arrested with brown sugar from their possession from the locality. Earlier on October 18, the police arrested a drug peddler, Mohammed Javed Qureshi, from near a mosque on K.M.Road under the Lower bazar police station area. Javed, who was carrying 8.20gram of drugs at the time of arrest, shared vital information regarding the business of drugs in Ranchi before he was produced before the court.
Prior to this, several arrests have been made from this police station in the area. A locality resident said drug peddling is very common in the area and police action is negligible in comparison to the problem.
Another police official said that the morale of drug peddlers is so high that they do not hesitate to supply it even in well-fortified areas.
In January last year a woman Sujata Sen was arrested from Dangratoli locality under the Lower Bazaar police station area along with a large number of sedative pills and cough syrups which she was allegedly selling to youths. Police later searched her house and questioned her about her customers and links with drug peddlers. Police said that she was arrested red-handed after police laid a trap on getting information about her.
Prior to this a 20 years old model Jyoti of Vidyanagar under the Sukhdeo Nagar police station area was arrested for peddling drugs. Police had recovered 28.26-gram of brown sugar from her possession. Police also recovered a weighing machine and silver foils from her residence.
Investigation revealed that she was supplying drugs to students at educational institutions. She had carried a huge consignment of drugs from Delhi which she was selling along with her boyfriend Shailesh Kumar alias Gandhi who was arrested later on.
