Ranchi Police Crack Down on Crime and Drug Trade in 2025 with 399 Arrests and ₹14.84 Crore Drug Seizure

Ranchi: In a significant crackdown throughout 2025, Ranchi Police made 399 arrests across organized and serious criminal cases and seized narcotics worth ₹14.84 crore. SSP Rakesh Ranjan affirmed the police’s commitment to continue strict action in 2026 to control crime and curb drug trafficking.

Breakdown of Major Arrests and Cases

Throughout the year, arrests included 44 for organized crime, 86 related to illegal arms, 158 for vehicle theft, 29 for snatching, and 82 for burglary. These figures reflect a comprehensive effort to tackle various forms of street and organized crime.

Major Drug Trafficking Busts

Police intensified their anti-narcotics drive, arresting 156 drug traffickers involved in illegal trade of brown sugar, cannabis, opium, doda, and banned capsules and syrups. The total value of the seized drugs amounted to ₹14.84 crore.

Opium Cultivation Dismantled

In a major crackdown, Ranchi Police destroyed illegal opium cultivation spread across 2,582 acres and arrested 25 individuals connected to the operation.

Success Against Naxal Activities

In anti-naxal operations, 17 extremists were arrested and 43 cases were resolved. The police recovered 117 firearms, over 400 live cartridges, and other items from the arrested naxals, highlighting improved counter-insurgency efforts.

Action Against Illegal Mining

The police also acted tough against illegal mining activities. In 2025, they seized 72 vehicles involved in illegal sand smuggling and 9 vehicles linked to unauthorized coal and stone transport.
