Ranchi, June 14: Ranchi University (RU) and Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University (DSPMU) have decided to start Bachelor in Physical Education course from the new session.
This is for students that are forced to go to other states due to the lack of such courses in the state. The universities have notably decided to begin the curse in an integrated format as per the NEP 2020.
A one-year diploma course is already being conducted at Ramgarh College under the Vinoba Bhave University, however, students are yet to reap any special benefits from the course.
However, the university officials have assured that the regular courses that are to begin in RU and DSPMU from this session will benefit students.
The proposal in this regard has been sent to the Higher Education Department. Teachers are also to be recruited for the same on a contract basis. Admissions are to be taken on 100 seats in the first session. Currently, the fee for this course is yet to be fixed. However, RU officials have assured that the course fee will be fixed on the lines of other subjects.
RU PRO Pritam said, “This will be a two-year course. Professor Dr Ashok Nag has been given the responsibility of conducting the B.P.Ed course.”
When contacted, Dr Nag said that a proposal has been sent to NCTE for recognition in the two-year B.P.Ed course. As soon as NCTE approves, this course will be started in all colleges of the university.
DSPMU PRO Rajesh Singh said, “The students doing this course will get several opportunities in the field of physical education. There are also opportunities for graduates in Bachelor in Physical Education as physical teachers in primary schools are in demand.”
“At the same time, after doing PG from this subject, one can become a physical education teacher in plus two schools. Apart from this, there will be many opportunities in government and non-government institutions as a sports coach, physical trainer, etc,” Singh added.
Notably, the RU Vice-Chancellor Dr Kamini Kumar had earlier announced the introduction of this course, after which there were speculations that the classes in the subject would start from this session itself.
