Ranchi, Nov 1: Ranchi has to gear up again for long traffic jams due to the start of an unfinished flyover at Kantatoli from November itself for two long years.

This time more traffic jam is expected as compared to the previous construction work in 2018-2019 because of the increase in the length of the flyover from 1250 meters to 2300 meters.

The vehicles coming from Kokar, Lalpur, Bahu Bazar and Namkum to Kantatoli will have to face jams. Although the traffic plan will be changed to avoid the jam, not much relief is expected from it.

The company for the construction work will be selected as soon as the tender opens on November 9 and the work will be started from this month itself. The selected company will have to complete the work within the time frame of two years.

The plan for the construction of the Kantatoli flyover was made in 2016 after which the agency to build it was selected in 2017 but due to the delay in land acquisition, the construction started in June 2018. The deadline to prepare the flyover was June 2020, but only 20 per cent of the work has been completed so far.

The people passing by Kantatoli faced problems during the construction for one and half years, but after the work stopped the trouble got worse with hundreds of vehicles passing through raw diversion blowing dust.

On the other hand, the cost of the flyover has increased from Rs 40 crore to Rs 224 crore over the past five years.
