Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren has approved the modernisation and renovation of Ranchi’s three main bus terminals to bring them up to national standards. Under this plan, a total budget of ₹48.72 crore has been sanctioned for the redevelopment of ITI Bus Stand, Government Bus Depot, and Birsa Munda Bus Terminal at Khadgarha. The Urban Development Department has been instructed to begin the tendering process promptly.

Major Overhaul For ITI Bus Stand

The ITI Bus Stand will receive ₹24.77 crore for a complete makeover. Spread across three acres, the new design includes a 2,330 sq m ground floor terminal building and an 880 sq m first floor with passenger facilities, driver canteens, maintenance sheds, guard rooms, and two sliding entry gates. The bus stand will accommodate operations of 416 buses daily (208 incoming and 208 outgoing) with proper parking, waiting areas, toilets for men, women, and differently abled passengers, and provisions for restaurants and dormitories.

Government Bus Depot To Get New Terminal Building

The outdated Government Bus Depot near the railway station, built between 1962 and 1970, will be redeveloped at a cost of ₹20.19 crore. The new structure, designed as per Indian Road Congress standards, will include eight bus bays capable of handling 512 buses daily. It will also feature ticket counters, food kiosks, parking for cars and autos, maintenance areas, dormitories, and separate facilities for men and women.

Birsa Munda Bus Terminal To Be Modernised

Birsa Munda Bus Terminal at Khadgarha will undergo renovation without altering its core structure, at a cost of ₹3.76 crore. Spanning 11.6 acres, the redevelopment will include smart shaded 31 bus bays, parking for 89 buses and 70 cars, a passenger waiting hall, ticket counters, high-mast lighting, dormitories, and enhanced security measures for women. Beautification through landscaping and two modern sliding gates are also part of the plan.
