Kolkata: The horrific rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College has sparked widespread outrage, with celebrities from Bollywood expressing their shock and demanding justice. Actor Randeep Hooda is among those who have voiced their anger, sharing how the incident has left him “speechless” and calling for “heinous punishment” for the perpetrators.
Taking to Instagram on Friday night, Hooda shared a heartfelt post, reflecting on how the tragedy hit close to home due to his family’s medical background. “Coming from a family of doctors and with my sister also being one, this case sends chills down my spine,” Hooda wrote, emphasizing the need for immediate and severe action against the criminals. He also expressed his frustration over the recurring nature of such horrific incidents in society, declaring, “Enough is enough!”
Hooda’s post further highlighted the necessity of protecting medical professionals while pointing out that predators don’t discriminate based on profession. He urged for a broader societal change but stressed that the first step should be swift and severe punishment for those involved. “That punishment should be covered and propagated by the media and social media as much as the tragic incident itself, if not more,” he added.
Concluding his post, Hooda expressed his solidarity with the victim’s family and the medical community, writing, “Heinous crimes deserve even more heinous punishment. At this trying hour, I stand with the family and the medical fraternity for justice. Om Shanti!”
Hooda is not alone in his outrage. Veteran actor Anupam Kher has also demanded capital punishment for the rapist, while filmmaker Karan Johar shared his deep disappointment and shock over the incident. Johar’s post, shared on Instagram Stories, reflected on the failure to protect women in the country, calling it a “massive irony of independence” and expressing his heartbreak over the situation.
Actor Hrithik Roshan, too, voiced his concerns on social media, noting that while society needs to evolve into a place where everyone feels equally safe, achieving that will take time. “It’s going to hopefully happen with sensitizing and empowering our sons and daughters. The next generations will be better,” Roshan wrote on his X account.
As the investigation into the gruesome crime continues, the calls for justice grow louder, with the hope that swift and severe punishment will not only bring justice to the victim and her family but also serve as a deterrent to prevent such tragedies in the future.
