New Delhi, Sept 23: India has asked its students going to Canada to exercise caution and remain vigilant against a “sharp increase in hate crimes and anti-India activities”.

The government said the Foreign Ministry has taken up incidents of hate crimes, sectarian violence and anti-India activities with Canada.

Canadian authorities have been requested to investigate the crimes and take appropriate action. “The perpetrators of these crimes have not been brought to justice so far in Canada,” said the Foreign Ministry.

“In view of the increasing incidences of crimes as described above, Indian nationals and students from India in Canada and those proceeding to Canada for travel/education are advised to exercise due caution and remain vigilant,” the statement said.

In addition, the government advised Indian citizens and students to register with the Indian missions in Ottawa, Toronto, and Vancouver.
